Sir David Alexander Cecil Low (1891-1963) was a New Zealand political cartoonist who lived and worked in Great Britain. Low worked in Australia before moving to London after the First World War. He worked for The Star from 1919 until 1927 when he then moved to the Evening Standard. It was while working for the Evening Standard that Low produced his most famous work, chronicling the rise of fascism in the 1930s, the policy of Appeasement and the Second World War. He sketched many political characters of the time including Churchill, Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin. His provocative and provoking depictions, particularly of Hitler and Mussolini led to his work being banned in Germany and Italy.
