Queen Elizabeth II succeeded to the throne at the age of 25 on the 6th February 1952. The coronation took place on the 2nd June 1953 at Westminster Abbey. The coronation was held more than one year later to allow an appropriate length of mourning after the death of King George VI. The late Queen was the longest reigning monarch in British history.
